The Mana Series’ Future, PlayStation, PC, and Nintendo’s Role

With a remake of Secret of Mana currently only planned for release on PlayStation 4, Vita, and PC fans have been requesting the remake be ported over to Nintendo’s hybrid console. Though this may seem like an unlikely possibility in the immediate future, we have seen the increased attention that the Switch has been getting from developers  who want to bring titles to the portable home console.

In a recent interview with IGN— senior producer of the Secret of Mana remake, Masaru Oyamada, spoke about the future of the series, the potential for a Switch port, and the possibility of the Seiken Densetsu Collection coming stateside. Oyamada had nothing to announce in regards to something already being in the works, but did mention that Square was paying attention to fan interest. Though, Oyamada mentioned that there has also been an outcry from gamers wanting a localization of the Seiken Densetsu Collection— the reality may be difficult with Seiken Densetsu 3 never being released outside of Japan before.

Based on how well the Secret of Mana remake performs and the interest in the series that the release generates, it could lead to a revival of the Mana series outside of remakes and mobile games. The Secret of Mana remake will be available on PlayStation 4, Vita, and PC on February 15th, 2018.
