PAX East 2017: Game Predictions

PAX East is an annual convention held in Boston, MA that caters to gamers and fans of nerd culture. This year it takes place on March 10-12.

As part of our pre-PAX East 2017 coverage, I am going to run through some of the predictions we have for what PAX is going to have in store for us this year in Boston. It’s no secret that PAX shows are focused on the fans and not the media, so I don’t expect too many reveals or bombs being dropped by some of the big names in gaming. Nevertheless, it’s usually our first chance to get to play some of the biggest and best releases coming out later in the year, interact with developers, and meet players in the gaming community from all over the world!

What we can almost guarantee will be there:
  • Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment
  • Cuphead
  • Overwatch
  • Halo Wars 2
  • For Honor
  • Nintendo Switch
  • Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
  • Splatoon 2
  • Arms
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
  • Super Bomberman R
  • 1-2 Switch
  • Ghost Recon: Wildlands
  • Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3
  • Shadow Warrior 2
  • Resident Evil 7
  • LawBreakers
  • Sonic Mania
  • Rock Band 4
  • Rock Band Rivals
  • Rock Band VR
  • Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valencia
  • Jack Box Party Pack 3
  • Mario Sports Superstars
  • Puyo Puyo Tetris
  • Towerfall Ascension
  • Lego Worlds
  • World of Tanks
  • Ultra Street Fighter 2: The Final Challengers
What we hope will also be there:
  • Mass Effect: Andromeda
  • Destiny 2: Forge of Hope
  • Ni No Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom
  • Outlast 2
  • Red Dead Redemption 2
  • Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite (4)
  • South Park: Fractured But Whole
  • Voodoo Vince: Remastered
  • Yooka-Laylee
  • Persona 5
  • Sea of Thieves
  • Crackdown 3
  • Knack 2
  • Prey 2
  • Rime
  • Project Sonic
  • Super Mario Odyssey

The Indie Showcase Mobile Games (announced here and listed below):
  • Agent A: A Puzzle in Disguise
  • Bulb Boy
  • Ellipsis
  • Tavern Guardians
  • Where Shadows Slumber

Besides all of the major publishers that populate the majority of the show floor, every year there’s a section carved out dedicated to indie games dubbed the “Indie-cade” or the “Indie Mega Booth.” This area is such a great place to discover so many different experiences and usually meet the people who actually worked on the game.

Pro Tip: Though it may seem like the best part about PAX East is the show floor, make sure to take time to go to panels, talk to other gamers, and check out the after-parties.
