TANUKI: Pon’s Summer was one of the most delightful surprises of the show for me. In TANUKI: Pon’s Summer you play as Pon a little tanuki who is trying to earn money to restore the great tanuki shrine and in order to come up with the scratch you’re tasked with delivering packages across the villages. Dashing across town on his delivery bike, Pon can hit ramps, grind rails, and stunt hard on his trek to placing packages in the hands of quirky residents. Each delivery is also accompanied by varied activities that have Pon wrestling, playing baseball, and much more in unique mini-games that will further unlock items for the shrine restoration.
In the brief moments I spent with TANUKI: Pon’s Summer, this little slice of life tale as a tanuki evoked so much joy just existing in that world. The vibes were immaculate, emanating euphoria from simple tasks and scooting around on your bicycle. No pressure points in sight as the stress of needing to raise funds and restore the shrine felt like they were sealed away in a package yet to be delivered, with no recipient to be found. I could see myself lazily waffling about in the world of TANUKI: Pon’s Summer and enjoying every moment spent on my bike and interacting with the cute characters taking up residence in each little nook. You can wishlist TANUKI: Pon’s Summer on Steam now while we all wait for this package to be delivered to us.
